Not Strict Anti-Inflammatory Recipes I began the Wahl's Protocol Anti-Inflammatory Diet about 4 months ago, and eating a strict anti-inflammatory diet has worked wonders for me. I have a serious neuromuscular disorder that has hospitalized me more than once and has been treated with very powerful immunosuppressants. Still yet, I was growing weaker and more tired daily. Something had to give...enter a new way of eating. Changing my diet has not cured me, but I am now able to make it through each day without so many medications and my energy level is way up from what is was (plus I have lost 12 pounds and am back down to a size 8). So, I STRONGLY recommend an anti-inflammatory diet for everyone - sick or not. But this book...For someone whose diet is very strict, I found this cookbook to not be very helpful. It includes many ingredients which are not used in strict anti-inflammatory cooking; like legumes, rice and dairy. Although the authors recommend no cows milk they still include goat and sheeps milk cheeses in their recipes. While others may find that they can use these ingredients and feel no ill effects, I cannot. Very few of the recipes included will work for me without major revision and substitution. Very disappointing.~~ PLENTY of recipes here to get you on a healthier track! ~~ LOVE the full contents list at the beginning under the following categories:Super Salads * Satisfying Soups * Dutch Oven Dinners * Hearty Casseroles * Skillful Skillets * One-Pot Pastas * Sheet Pan SuppersYES! Nutritionists who know the dangers of canola oil, vegetable oils and margarine! Encouraging to see that the foods to avoid are WAY less than the ones to enjoy. IMPORTANT to note that many of the recipes call for broth. Whilst the index indicates that bone broth is on Page 35 alas that is just a mention with no recipe provided. Whilst I understand the value of bone broth, I also understand the need to stay away from processed foods unless it is of really high quality. I also realize most folks do not have time to be constantly making broth thus I would prefer to add collagen and other herbs fresh with each meal. Such a shame that recipe book creators in general are moving away from this and using purchased broth in their recipes. The authors also do not talk about the importance of soaking nuts before consuming, a big factor.Despite the above observations, there are a nice selection of recipes in this book with clear instructions. If you are looking for inspiration and new HEALTHY recipes then this book could well be for you. Many of the recipes also call for wine so if you are not a wine consumer be warned now, rather than disappointed after purchase. Being well aware that the broth subject is a pet peeve of mine and certainly not shared by everyone else I awarded this book 4* as it is well done and going to be helpful to many. I was provided a copy of this book by the publisher. Thanks, LizGood recipes, not as strict as AIP (auto-immune protocol) I love the idea behind this cookbook (making easy anti-inflammatory recipes for busy parents) so I was really surprised by the writer's point of view in a few matters. I'm aware that the writer has more schooling in nutrition than I do, but I have had a lot of years of experience with auto-immune disease, allergies, and sensitivities so I'm surprised that she includes foods such as dark chocolate, eggs, and soy in her list of foods to include in an anti-inflammatory diet. Those are triggers for many people so if you're not having luck with your anti-inflammatory diet, you may want to look into cutting those (and even nuts, grains, and seeds) from your diet and seeing if that helps.I have been on the auto-immune protocol (AIP) for months and while I haven't found total remission, I would recommend it as a good starting place. This book is not AIP since it includes a number of foods that aren't allowed in the first stages of the auto-immune protocol, but its a good cookbook once you have established what foods you can eat and need more ideas for quick recipes.I liked the way the book is sectioned by baking/cooking style but I wish it had more photos. The author also includes a list of the "dirty dozen and the clean fifteen" which is an easy way to remember which produce is best purchased organically and which ones are ok to eat even if they aren't organic. This is not a concept unique to this author, but I'm always pleased to see nutritionists utilizing and reminding us that some produce really needs to be organic to avoid harmful pesticides.Overall its a good cookbook for those who have figured out most of their trigger foods and can avoid them or for those that don't want to go as strict as AIP. I'm guessing that many people will be able to see positive results with the foods and recipes included in this book.
